3 results about "Electric motor" patented technology

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and electric current in a wire winding to generate force in the form of rotation of a shaft. Electric motors can be powered by direct current (DC) sources, such as from batteries, motor vehicles or rectifiers, or by alternating current (AC) sources, such as a power grid, inverters or electrical generators. An electric generator is mechanically identical to an electric motor, but operates in the reverse direction, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Electrical Power Assisted Steering System

An electric power assisted steering assembly comprises a steering mechanism which operatively connects a steering wheel to the roadwheels of a vehicle, a torque sensing means adapted to produce a first output signal indicative of the torque carried by a portion of the steering mechanism, a means for producing a second output signal indicative from a signal indicative of the angular velocity of the portion of the steering mechanism, an electric motor operatively connected to the steering mechanism, a signal processing unit adapted to receive the two output signals and to produce therefrom an overall torque demand signal representative of a torque to be applied to the steering mechanism by the motor, and a motor drive stage adapted to provide a drive current to the motor responsive to the torque demand signal. The overall torque demand signal includes a damping component that is dependent upon the second output signal. The means for producing the yaw damping component includes a filter having one pole and one zero, and in use the second signal is passed through the filter to produce the damping component, the frequency of the pole and zero being selected such that the filter provides a band between the pole and zero within which the phase of the filtered second signal and the velocity signal are further out of phase or in phase than within the band.

Prevention of unpowered reverse rotation in compressors

InactiveUS20060222510A1Prevent reversalRule out the possibilityFluid parameterOscillating piston enginesDrive motorAir conditioning
The shutdown of a compressor (10) installed in a refrigerant circuit (2) in air conditioning or refrigeration system is controlled so as to prevent unpowered reverse rotation of the compressor. Prior to terminating electric power to the compressor drive motor (24), the pressure within the system is relieved and substantially equalized across the compressor, thereby eliminating the possibility of unpowered reverse rotation of the compressor at shutdown. Pressure relief and equalization may be achieved by reducing the operating speed of the compressor to a low forward speed for a period of time prior to deenergizing the compressor drive motor. Pressure equalization may also be achieved by driving the compressor in reverse rotation prior to deenergizing the drive motor.

Compressor With Muffler

InactiveUS20090116977A1Rotary/oscillating piston combinations for elastic fluidsPositive displacement pump componentsRefrigerantMuffler
A compressor assembly may include a shell, a discharge fitting, a muffler, a compression mechanism, and a motor. The shell may have an opening therethrough with the discharge fitting generally extending therefrom. The muffler may be in communication with the discharge fitting and may be external to the shell. The muffler may have an inlet proximate the discharge fitting, an outlet distal from the discharge fitting, and a body portion extending therebetween. The muffler may include a valve assembly proximate the outlet. The compression mechanism may be contained within the shell and include a suction inlet and a discharge passageway. The discharge passageway may be connected to the opening in the shell for direct discharge of refrigerant from the compression mechanism to the discharge fitting. The motor may be contained within the shell and drivingly coupled to the compression mechanism.
